Our Blue Zone

Finca Los Suenos sits in a Blue Zone, a popular term for small geographical locations in the world where people live longer, healthier, more active lives. Five specific Blue Zones have been identified on our planet where people commonly live active lives to age 100 - the defining criteria for a Blue Zone.

The central Nicoya Peninsula in the Guanacaste province of northwest Costa Rica is identified as one of the planet's top Blue Zone. Statistics show that people living in the Nicoya Blue Zone live longer than people in the rest of Costa Rica. It stretches about 70 miles north-to-south, and about 40 miles east-to-west, and includes about 75,000 people.

Researchers have identified eight reasons for this longevity. They include a healthy light diet, water rich in calcium, a family focus, a dry climate, social networks, physical activity and life purpose. Perhaps it is our Nicoya aquifer water that makes folks feel physically younger in Finca Los Suenos? To put this into some perspective, here's what BlueZones.com says about it:

“A Costa Rican man in Nicoya age 60 has twice the chance of reaching age 90 than a man living in the United States, France, or even Japan. Costa Rica spends only 15 percent of what America does on health care, yet its people live longer, seemingly healthier lives than people in any other country on Earth. Nicoya has the lowest cancer rates in Costa Rica.”
